ANCILLARY'S: WHAT IS A MAGAZINE ADVERT?

An Album Advert is a poster that is create in order to make people aware of the release of a new album. They are placed in music magazines, newspapers, on billboards, outside gig venues, shared on social media and more. They often include a some sort of variation of the album artwork from the album in advertising (With the aim being to make the album artwork recognisable), the date in which the album is released for purchase and information on the singles that may have been already released prior to albums release. The album advert is an extremely important part of advertising an album release as word of mouth and social advertising is often not enough. Audiences like a physical reminder, something that will stick in there mind so when the album is released they are more likely to purchase it.

Pros and Cons of magazine advertising for albums:

- Physical reminders with distinctive imagery.

- Gives good information on upcoming releases.

- Covers a broad audience.

- Can't preview the songs.

- May not target niche audiences.
